SUMMARY:GBCC East Galway Heritage Cycle
DESCRIPTION:Cycling has been a part of rural life in Galway for decades. There were more bike on the roads than cars in the 1950s. While the roads may have changed to accommodate the cars\, the old roads\, the old routes and destinations can still be found. The Sunday cyclist of the 1940s or 50s would not have been thinking about PBs and local segment challenges\, but would have picked up information about crops\, stock\, and local gossip. \nGalway Bay Cycling Club (GBCC) wishes to bring its members and friends on a trip from the city around the old roads\, recreating the slow pace and incident. This event will re-create the cycling wandering of 1950’s leisure cyclist\, if she/he started in Claregalway\, a hill climb at Abbeyknockmoy (stopping at St. Patrick’s graveyard and 17th century carved stone) and on to Our lady’s Well\, Athenry for refreshments\, before returning to Claregalway. \nThe 55km cycle will be designed for new-to-bike participants\, but will include a hill to climb\, and a view to see. The commentary on the landscape and historical stops will be led by Colm Murray and Stephen O’Connell of GBCC\, with help from friends

SUMMARY:Introduction to Mountain Biking
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Biking is a big part of the Tír Chonaill GAP scene\, and we have attracted many new members to the club through mountain biking\, either directly from Bike Week or from seeing the photos on social media.\nThe event will start and finish at McCafferty’s Bar in Lettermacaward and we will take beginner cyclists off road on gravel\, farm and mountain tracks. The scenery is spectacular\, the views even better\, and the terrain even even better.\nIf you’ve never ridden a mountain bike but fancy a crack at this off road fun\, this is the event for you. You will be joined by experienced cyclists who will help you manage the terrain.\nWe have a few bikes available to lend\, but these will be allocated on a first come first served basis\, so please let us know in advance if you need one.

DESCRIPTION:Kick your summer sea dipping off with our Cycle to Sea Dip in May! A leisurely group cycle followed by a sea swim at Seapoint. \nCycling and Sea Swimming at Seapoint! \nJoin us at 10am on Sunday morning\, 17 May for a guided cycle from Sandymount Green along the coast road to Sea Point for a high tide summer sea swim! \nThis event will bring together a leisurely group cycle of about 12km and a guided sea swim with like minded people. \nTake part in a guided open water swim at Seapoint\, suitable for both experienced swimmers and those who simply want to enjoy a sea dip. Participants will have the option to swim approximately 500 meters out to the buoy and back\, accompanied by an experienced swim guide. \nSwimmers are welcome to wear a wetsuit if they prefer. All participants will be required to use a tow float for visibility and safety. Bring a tow float if you have one\, a limited number will also be available to borrow on the day. \nIf you’d rather stay closer to shore\, you’re equally welcome to join for a shorter dip. With a focus on safety and enjoyment\, this session caters to a range of abilities in a relaxed\, social setting. \nBring your bike and your togs!
