DESCRIPTION:Private Event! \nThis proposal is for a half day cycle around Killarney National Park or a similar greenway area for a group of migrant women\, currently living in an accommodation centre in Drishane Castle in Millstreet\, Cork. The group have their own bikes but do not have access to transport. \nIn April/May 2026\, Wild Atlantic Sports will run a 5 week cycling programme on behalf of Cork Sports Partnership with the women\, to include cycle skills\, road safety\, bike maintenance and local road cycles. The final week of this programme is on Bike Week and the proposed cycle would be a super finish and celebration of their progress! \nThe Bike Week funding would support a trip to a local safe cycling and include bus hire for the group\, transport of the groups’ bikes to the cycle destination\, drinks & refreshments for the group and cover instructor/guide expenses.

DESCRIPTION:We plan to run the event in St Anne’s Park in Raheny\, Dublin 5 (park permit granted). It will be open to everyone but we are targeting children aged 8-15 in particular. The event will be free to take part in. All that is required is a bike and a helmet. \nThe event will involve various elements:\nSkills display by an Elite level mountain bike rider\nVarious obstacles courses that all riders can test themselves against\nRiding on a bike on a turbo trainer with a power meter to see who can get the highest power reading\nChallenge to ride on rollers – we will have an Elite track rider to demonstrate some skills on rollers \nWe will also have a qualified mechanic on hand to check bikes and indicate to riders if they need to get work done/parts replaced etc.\nThere will be various prizes on offer through the evening. \nWe will also have refreshments for all participants.

SUMMARY:GBCC East Galway Heritage Cycle
DESCRIPTION:Cycling has been a part of rural life in Galway for decades. There were more bike on the roads than cars in the 1950s. While the roads may have changed to accommodate the cars\, the old roads\, the old routes and destinations can still be found. The Sunday cyclist of the 1940s or 50s would not have been thinking about PBs and local segment challenges\, but would have picked up information about crops\, stock\, and local gossip. \nGalway Bay Cycling Club (GBCC) wishes to bring its members and friends on a trip from the city around the old roads\, recreating the slow pace and incident. This event will re-create the cycling wandering of 1950’s leisure cyclist\, if she/he started in Claregalway\, a hill climb at Abbeyknockmoy (stopping at St. Patrick’s graveyard and 17th century carved stone) and on to Our lady’s Well\, Athenry for refreshments\, before returning to Claregalway. \nThe 55km cycle will be designed for new-to-bike participants\, but will include a hill to climb\, and a view to see. The commentary on the landscape and historical stops will be led by Colm Murray and Stephen O’Connell of GBCC\, with help from friends
