Join us for our Dawn Cycle event on May 10th in aid of Pieta. Ending Suicide. Beginning Hope. This is also a great event to kick start bike week.
Our Learn to Cycle class is an exciting and engaging program designed to teach children the fundamentals of cycling in a safe and supportive environment. Aimed at children aged 5-12 years old, our class is perfect for beginners who are eager to hop on a bike and start pedalling.
Repair Cafe and Cycle Ballyhanuis is suitable for all ages, national schools and families for beginner levels. This is to promote awareness and safety and workshop and maintenance for bike maintenance.
We will hold the event in our local GAA club Mary;land GAA grounds. Each cjhild will bring their bike and we will employ coaches from the local triathlon club to facilitate the training. Children will be taught about safety on bikes on the road, the impotance of using safety equipment such as hi-vis jackets and cycling safely and responsibly. The coaches will show the children skills on the day and will hold a mini cycling evet at the club.

On Yer Bike Achill is suitable for children ages 5-12 year olds who are in national schools, this is suitable for beginners and intermediate levels of cycling on awareness and safety, education and training and the event being fun and interactive.
We are planning a vibrant and inclusive Community Bike Day designed to bring people of all ages together on two wheels! The event kicks off with an in-depth workshop on bike maintenance and repair, led by local cycling experts who will guide participants through essential skills such as fixing a flat, adjusting brakes, and tuning gears. After getting hands-on and confident with their bikes, everyone is invited to take part in a leisurely community ride through scenic local routes. As a special highlight, we’re excited to include the use of a specially designed accessible bike, enabling elderly community members and residents from the nearby residential home to join in the fun and reconnect with their community. This heartwarming addition ensures that the joy of cycling is shared by all, making the day not only active and educational, but also deeply meaningful.
Two categories for children to learn to cycle. Beginner / Nervous (5 to 10 years) – For children who are just starting on a pedal bike, struggle with getting started, or wobble a lot while cycling. This level focuses on improving balance and pedalling skills. Improver / Advanced (8 to 12 years) – For children who can start and stop independently and cycle in a straight line but need to improve their braking and cornering skills.

Moran’s bike shop will attend Gorvagh Community Centre and repair and check children’s bikes from the area (Check breaks, gears, tyres etc ) and adjust and replace as required. There will be a talk on road safety and good bike use.

During Bike Week, club volunteers will visit local schools for fun, hands-on cycling sessions. Teens at The Comp in Glenties will learn basic bike maintenance, while younger children at national schools will practice cycling skills in the playground

Grassroutes Bike Hire will run eight inclusive cycling classes during Bike Week 2025 for students from Little Angels and St Bernadette’s schools. Sessions include bike fitting, safety checks, and adapted cycling skills, promoting confidence, physical activity, and independence.
Students will learn key cycling skills from Green Schools’ Aengus Kennedy before exploring their local national park by bike. This safe, supported experience builds confidence and road safety awareness. Parents can join to learn alongside their children, encouraging more cycling at home—especially for those without regular bike access or experience.
