The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today published its Statement of Strategy 2026–2030, setting out its ambitions for the next five years and reaffirming its commitment to delivering high‑quality, sustainable transport for communities across Ireland.
Under the previous strategy, the NTA has made significant progress in advancing major public transport and active travel projects. Several phases of the BusConnects Dublin Network Redesign have already been introduced, bringing more frequent, more reliable and more accessible bus services to passengers. Strong progress has also been made on the BusConnects Core Bus Corridors, which will support faster and more dependable bus journeys on key commuter routes and create better facilities for walking and cycling.
Nationwide investment in active travel has accelerated at scale, providing new walking and cycling routes, improved connections to schools, enhanced greenways and safer infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities.
Important steps have also been achieved on the DART Plus Programme, which is preparing the foundations for expanded electrified rail services for communities in Kildare, Meath, Louth and across North Dublin.
Building on these achievements, the new strategy sets out the NTA’s mission to connect Ireland’s people and places, by providing accessible, high quality, sustainable transport infrastructure and services, contributing to vibrant, climate resilient communities, a healthy environment, balanced regional development and a strong economy. The strategy reflects the organisation’s committment to deliver effective and inclusive transport infrastructure and services, to contribute credibly to the National Sustainable Mobility Policy, and to foster a workplace where staff can grow, develop and feel valued.
The next five years will focus on improving customer experience, advancing climate and environmental commitments, expanding public transport capacity, strengthening regulation and safety and ensuring continued delivery of strategic transport infrastructure. The NTA will also deepen engagement with communities and stakeholders while developing a high performing organisation supported by evidence-based decision making.
Speaking at the launch, Anne Shaw, CEO of the National Transport Authority, said:
“As CEO I am very honoured to be leading the organisation to deliver the mission and vision of the NTA, working with all partners and colleagues involved in delivering infrastructure and services that connects people to opportunity and enables businesses to thrive and invest.
The NTA has grown very significantly over the last few years and it’s important that we retain our values and culture of inclusivity and diversity, as we develop the organisation further to meet our growing mandate and deliver connectivity for the people and places of Ireland.”
