Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) is pleased to confirm that Luas Red Line services between Connolly and The Point will resume on Friday 28 November. This follows the successful completion of bridge reconstruction and extensive safety and repair works at Georges Dock, carried out after the fire incident in August.
To ensure the safe return of services, TII conducted a detailed assessment of the bridge, light rail infrastructure, and associated utilities. Based on this assessment, an intensive programme of construction and reinstatement works was delivered in collaboration with Transdev, Jons Civil Engineering, ROD, GPX Rail, and the Custom House Docks Management Limited. In addition to bridge reconstruction, utility connections, and Luas tracks and the Overhead Contact System were fully reinstated.
The Commission for Railway Regulation (CRR) approved the return of passenger services this week. TII sincerely thanks all who were involved to ensure the timely completion of these complex works and return to services within four months of the original fire incident. TII would also like to express thanks to Luas passengers for their patience and understanding during the period of disruption. Your cooperation allowed us to prioritise safety and reinstate Luas services just in time for the busy Christmas season.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien said
“I’d like to congratulate TII, Transdev, and the NTA in their role as funding Authority, in addition to the agencies, contractors and utility providers for all their collaboration and work to ensure the safe and timely return of Luas passenger services. I’m delighted to see the services reopening just in time for the busy Christmas season and thank passengers for their patience and understanding throughout this period.”
TII Chief Executive Lorcan O’Connor stated that “this achievement reflects TII’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient transport infrastructure promptly. He also acknowledged the strong collaboration and dedication of all parties involved, which made it possible to restore passenger services within an exceptionally short timeframe.”
The MD of Transdev Dublin Light Rail, Ben Dwars said
