Transport for Ireland (TFI), partnered with The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind (IGDB), would like to raise awareness for our Wheelchair Priority Campaign.
Public transport should be accessible to everyone — but for many wheelchair users, that access depends on more than just getting on board. It depends on being given the space and time they need to travel safely.
Boarding first allows wheelchair users to safely access the designated wheelchair space without obstruction or delay.
Unlike other passengers, wheelchair users don’t have the flexibility to stand or move to another seat. The designated wheelchair space on buses is the only place they can travel safely. When it is occupied by luggage, buggies or standing passengers, it can prevent someone from making their journey.
TFI’s new fleet of buses include space to store luggage, a designated space for wheelchair users and a designated space for buggies.
Most passengers have choices. For wheelchair users, this space is the only option. So please:
Let’s work together to make public transport a place for everyone.
This campaign is in honour of Micheál Hughes.
