St. Patrick’s Day & Bank Holiday March 2024 Service Info

On St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday 17 March there will be some changes to Luas services to accommodate the parade.

Services on both the Red and Green Lines will run Sunday Operating Hours and there will also be partial closures of the Red and Green Lines to facilitate the parade.

Luas | St. Patrick’s Day & Bank Holiday March 2024 Service Info

There will be no Red Line trams running between Smithfield and Connolly / The Point from 10:00 to 15:00 approx. Red Line trams will run between Tallaght / Saggart and Smithfield only during these times.

There will be no Green Line trams running between St. Stephen’s Green and Dominick

from 07:00 to 18:00 approx. Trams will run between Broombridge and Dominick,

and between St. Stephen’s Green and Brides Glen only during these times.

Luas Museum Stop will be closed from 15:00 to 17:00 due to an event taking place in the area. Please use Luas Smithfield or Heuston Stops as an alternative option.

On Bank Holiday Monday 18 March, Luas Red and Green Line services will run Sunday operating hours and frequency.

St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17 March & Bank Holiday Monday 18 March 2024 Service Info

Red Line:

• Trams will run Sunday Operating Hours (see below table for first and last tram times)
• From first tram until 10:00, trams will run on the full Red Line
• From 10:00 until 15:00 approx., Luas Stops between Smithfield and Connolly / The Point will be closed.
• The full Red Line will reopen at approx. 15:00.

Green Line:

• Trams will run Sunday Operating Hours (see below table for first and last tram times)
• From first tram until 18:00, trams will run between Broombridge and Dominick, and between St. Stephen’s Green and Brides Glen only.
• Trams will not run between St. Stephen’s Green and Dominick from first tram until 18:00.
• The full Green Line will reopen at approx. 18:00.

Luas services will run as normal from first tram on Tuesday 19 March.

Extra trains will operate for Six Nations finale, and St Patrick’s Day events

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail advise customers of rail travel arrangements, including a range of extra services, for the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend.

Extra trains will operate for the Six Nations rugby finale on Saturday 16th March, and on St Patrick’s Day, Sunday 17th March, including trains before and after the Parade and late night trains on DART and Commuter routes.

Saturday 16th March

• Ireland v Scotland, Six Nations rugby at Aviva Stadium.

Extra DART services will operate before and after the match.
Please note Grand Canal Dock Station will be closed at full time (18:20 to 20:00) to facilitate Garda crowd management arrangements for the match.

St Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March

• DART and Commuter Services: A Sunday service will operate, with extra DART and Commuter services (from Howth, Malahide, Bray, Greystones, Maynooth, Longford and Dundalk) operating before and after the St Patrick’s Day parade. Customers are advised to allow sufficient time to travel to the Parade, which begins at 12:00, with high demand expected.
• Customers are advised that Tara Street Station will be closed until 16:00, to facilitate Garda crowd management arrangements for the Parade.  Please use Connolly or Pearse Stations during this time.
• Late Night Trains: The following trains will operate after midnight on DART and Commuter routes, serving all stations unless otherwise stated:
  • 00:20 Dublin Pearse to Maynooth
  • 00:30 Dublin Pearse to Howth
  • 00:30 Dublin Connolly to Greystones
  • 00:40 Dublin Pearse to Dundalk (serving Tara St, Connolly, Howth Junction and then all stations to Dundalk)
  • 00:50 Dublin Pearse to Kildare (serving Tara St, Connolly, Drumcondra, and all stations ParkWest to Kildare)
• Intercity Routes: A Sunday service with minor changes is in operation. Please check our Journey Planner for times .
• Cork Commuter: A Sunday service will operate.

Bank Holiday Monday 18th March

A Sunday service will operate on DART and Commuter routes.

A revised timetable will operate on Intercity routes – check times before travel.

Route 114 Diversion

• Towards Blackrock : Continue across the junction at Frascati Road, at the next lights turn right onto Temple Road, and terminate at stop 3034.
• Towards Rockview: Start at stop 3034 on Temple Road continue to the next junction and turn right and right again. Continue on Frascati Road to the second set of traffic lights and turn left onto Carysfort Avenue back on route.

Route 120 Diversion Clane

• Clane

• Please note due to St Patrick’s Day parade the Main St in Clane will be closed with no access between 14:00 – 17:00

• Outbound:  Stops affected: Clane Garda Station, Clane Aldi and Clane Hospital
• Normal route until we reach the Brooklands stop then take the first exit at the roundabout and continue around the Westgrove Hotel , Left onto the R407 and head out towards Sallins and take a right onto the Millicent road and follow that to Firmount cross and then back on route
• Inbound: Stops affected: Clane Hospital, Clane Aldi and Clane Garda Station
• After the Firmount cross stop turn right onto Millicent road follow it all the way to the T junction and turn left for Clane when you reach the roundabout take the 3^rd exit and follow around the back of the Westgrove Hotel and then at the Tesco Roundabout turn right and back on route.

Route 120 and 120C Diversion Edenderry

  Departing Charlesland take the first exit at the Mill Road roundabout. Continue on Mill Road and take the second exit off the Byeways roundabout, At the Killicarrig roundabout take the second exit onto the R761 at the junction of Bellevue Road it will return to normal route.

• Bray

• Departing Blanchardstown Hospital continue along the N3 in the direction Cavan, take the first slip road towards Blanchardstown SC staying in the left lane. At the traffic light go continue through on to the L3020 back on to route.

Route 120, 125, 126 & 130 Dublin Diversion

• On Friday 17^th March 2024 (St. Patrick’s Day) due to multiple events in Dublin, ALL SERVICES between 0400hrs & 1900hrs will terminate and commence at Heuston Station.

• Terminate at Heuston Station, continue out of service onto the R148 Wolfe Tone Quay & Arran Quay, turning right across Capel Street / Grattan Bridge. Make use of marked coach parking space on Victoria Quay for break / layover (green area).

• From Victoria Quay follow R148 round to Heuston Station and recommence scheduled  service.

Route 126 Diversion

• Please note due to St Patricks Day parade the Main St in Newbridge will be closed from 10:00 – 14:00

Route S6 Diversion

Continue to the next junction and turn right and right again back onto Frascati Road. Left on the Mount Merrion Avenue using stop 430 Sydney Avenue as the first stop back to towards Tallaght.

Route W2 Diversion

  At Newlands cross continue on the R113 Fonthill road south, at the roundabout take the second exit, at the second roundabout take the second exit, and continue on the R134 to the next junction at Ninth Lock

Route W62 Diversion

  Follow the R120 at the roundabout take the first exit and continue towards Dublin on the N7. At the next slip road keep left and at the next roundabout take first exit crossing the Bridge, take the third exit off the next roundabout, continue southbound on the N7, and take the next left onto Garter Lane, and the first left again back on route.

  At the roundabout on Mill Road take the third exit and follow the road south on the N7 towards Naas. At the next slip road keep left and follow the road to the next roundabout and take the first exit and cross the bridge. At the next roundabout take the third exit follow the N7 back towards Dublin.

  At the next slip Road keep left and take the first exit at the roundabout back on route.

Route L51 Diversion

• Towards Adamstown
• 
• Towards Adamstown Buses should then take a left onto N4 then take next slip road onto Leixlip Road. Take a left onto Old Cornmill Road carry on until the end of that Road / then taking a left onto Millstream Road bringing buses back on route.

From 7pm on 15 March until 6am on 19 March, all services from Dublin to Dundalk will divert via Beresford Place, around the back of Custom House, rejoin the North Quays and resume route from the CHQ stop.
Stops Missed: Custom House Quay.

Services from Dundalk will operate as normal with the exception of St Patricks day when services until 5pm will divert after serving CHQ and operate via via Talbot Bridge, City Quay, Lombard St. for Westland Row Churchcava.

Services to/from Dublin

We wish to advise customers of disruptions to the following services to/from Dublin between midnight and 5pm on St Patrick’s Day, 17 March 2024:

Expressway Services

Route 2

All services from Wexford to Dublin after crossing the bridge to the Northside of Dublin City will continue straight to Beresford Place heading to the station to serve Busaras: Gate 16 as a temporary stop until 17:00. Stop missed: Custom House Quay.

Route 4

Services to/from Dublin will divert via M50 and Port Tunnel up to 17:00. During this time, all services will terminate and commence in Busáras from first service until 17:00.
Heuston Station, Eden Quay and Custom House Quay not served during the times indicated.

Route 23

Services from Dublin to Sligo will operate as normal, except the 07:40 from Dublin Airport. After Busaras, this service will be diverting via Port Tunnel & M50 to N4 exit for Liffey Valley and serve Lucan: Spa Hotel.

Bus Éireann PSO Service

Route 245X

Services between Dublin and Cork will divert via M50 and Port Tunnel up to 17:00. During this time, all services will terminate and commence in Busaras from first service until 17:00. Heuston Station and Bacherlor’s Walk not served during the times indicated.

Route NX

Services to Dublin will operate via Whitworth Rd. & Gardiner Street for Westland Row Church.
Phibsborough Rd NCR, Broadstone, O’Connell St Upper & Abbey St Irish Life Mall will not be served.

Cork County services will be diverted as follows due to local St. Patrick’s Day parades:

Ballincollig

Ballincollig St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 and as a result Main Street, Ballincollig will be closed from its junction with Castlepark to its junction with Muskerry Estate, from 13:30 to 18:00 approximately.

As a result services should operate as follows:-

Outbound from Cork: operate as normal to Eastgate. Turn right onto Old Fort Road (behind Barracks) to Muskerry Estate and normal route thereafter.

Inbound to Cork: operate as normal to Muskerry Estate. Turn left onto Old Fort Road (behind barracks), left at Eastgate junction and normal route thereafter.

Bandon

Bandon St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 from 14:00 to 16:00 approximately.

As a result services should operate as follows:-

Outbound services from Cork to West Cork should operate to Kelleher’s (Glasslyn Road). Turn bus at Kellehers and then operate via the by-pass.

Inbound services to Cork should operate via the by-pass to Kelleher’s, Glasslyn Road. Buses should turn at Kelleher’s for Cork.

Please note that An Garda Siochana will offer assistance when buses are turning at Kelleher’s.

Carrigaline

Carrigaline St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 and as a result, the Main Street, Carrigaline will be closed to traffic from 14:00 to 15:30 approx.

As a result, services should operate as follows for the duration of closure:

Route 220 Outbound – Cork/Liosbourne/Crosshaven:

Operate as per normal route to Carrigaline Court Hotel roundabout, turning right onto Ballea Road, left at traffic lights onto Pottery Road and then right onto Lower Kilmoney Road and normal route thereafter.

Route 220 Inbound – Crosshaven/Liosbourne/Cork:

Operate as normal to Lower Kilmoney Road, turning left onto Pottery Road, right onto Ballea Road, turning left at Carrigaline Court Hotel roundabout and normal route thereafter.

Route 225 Cork Airport/Ballygarvan to Ringaskiddy:

Operate as per normal Route from Ballygarvan to Carrigaline Court Hotel roundabout, taking left on to R613, proceeding to main junction. At junction continue ahead to Church Road and normal Route thereafter.

Route 225 Ringaskiddy to Ballygarvan/Cork Airport:

Operate as per normal Route from Ringaskiddy via Church Road, continuing ahead at junction to Roundabout, taking third exit to R611 and normal Route thereafter.

Carrigtwohill

Carrigtwohill St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March2024, from 13:15 to 15:15 approximately.

Outbound services are not affected.

Inbound service 13.35 ex Ballinacurra will be unable to serve Carrigtwohill during this closure.

Cahir

Cahir St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March2024, and as a result the Main Street will be closed from 12:00rs to 14:00 approximately.

During this closure, passengers should board services at disused garage forecourt (Keatings Garage) opposite the Mart on the Cashel Road.

On approach to Cahir from Cork, drivers should travel as normal on the M8 and turn left onto the Cahir Bypass and take the exit for the R670 (Cashel Road), turning left into the Garage Forecourt opposite the Mart, turn and return to the M8 via the Cashel Road. This diversion only affects the 12:00 service from Cork to Dublin.

Clonakilty

St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Clonakilty will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 and as a result the Main Street will be closed to traffic from 14:00 to 16:00 approximately.

As a result Route 237 services should operate via the By-Pass for the duration of the closure.

Fermoy

St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Fermoy will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 from 11:00 to 13:00 approximately.

Customers should be facilitated to board and alight services oppisite Aldi on the Dublin Rd. for duration of event.

Macroom

Due to St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Macroom on Sunday, 17 March2024, the Main Street will be closed from 15:00 to 17:00 approximately.

The Gardai will try and facilitate services operating through Macroom at 15.15, prior to actual commencement of parade. When the Parade commences Route 40 services should operate as follows:

Route 40 Inbound services:

turn left off New Street before the bridge and operate via Masseytown and Mill Road, proceeding to eastern end of town and re-joining main road at Coachford Junction.

Route 40 Outbound services:

turn right before Macroom Town at Coachford Junction and proceed left via Mill Road to Masseytown, turning right after passing O’Riada’s Bar onto New Street and normal route thereafter.

Passengers wishing to board/alight services in Macroom in either direction should be facilitated on New Street or at Coachford Junction.

Mallow

Mallow St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 from 12:45 to 16:00 approximately.

Customers travelling to Limerick should board bus services prior to the Train Station.

Customers travelling to Cork should be facilitated on Cork Road opposite Roundabout Inn.

Midleton

Midleton St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024 and as a result the Main Street will be closed to traffic from 13:00 to 18:00 approximately.

Route 40; 260; Outbound from Cork:

Services should operate as normal to Lake View Roundabout, take R630 (St. Mary’s road) to junction with Youghal Road; then turning right to operate via Youghal Road to junction with N25 and normal Route thereafter.

Route 261 Outbound from Cork:

Services should operate as normal to Lake View Roundabout then take R630 (St. Mary’s Road) to junction with Youghal Road; then turning right to operate via Youghal Road to junction with N25. Then turn right and return to Lake View Roundabout to serve Ballinacurra.

Route 40; 260 Inbound to Cork:

Operate as normal to junction with Youghal Road, then turn right to operate via Youghal Road to junction with R630 (St. Mary’s Road), turning left to operate via R630 (St. Mary’s Road) to Lake View Roundabout and normal Route thereafter.

Route 261 Inbound to Cork:

Operate as normal to Lake View Roundabout, then via N25 to junction with Youghal Road. Turn left to operate via Youghal Road to junction with R630 (St. Mary’s Road), then turn left to operate via R630 (St. Mary’s Road) to Lake View Roundabout and normal route thereafter

Mitchelstown

Mitchelstown St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024, and as a result the Main Street will be closed from 12:45 to 14:30 approximately.

As a result, Route 245X should operate via Georges St, inbound and outbound. Please note that An Garda Siochana will be on duty and will direct buses on the day.

Please facilitate customers at Oisin House, junction of Robert Street & George’s Street, for travel outbound to Dublin and opposite Oisin House for services inbound to Cork.

Youghal

Youghal St. Patricks Day Parade will take place on Sunday, 17 March 2024, and as a result the Main Street will be closed from 14:30 to 16:00 approximately.

Drivers are advised that outbound passengers may board buses at Summerfield Cross, Cork Hill or end of Cork Hill.

Passengers travelling from Youghal to Cork may board buses at Aherne’s end of Cork Hill and at Summerfield Cross.

Gardai have advised that “No Parking Cones” will be placed at the bottom of Cork Hill to assist with bus turning in the area.

Rathkeale (Co. Limerick)

Routes 13 and 14 will be unable to serve Rathkeale between 10.00 and 14.00.

Crosshaven

Crosshaven St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Monday, 18 March 2024. The parade will start at the Point Road at the boat yard and will continue onto the Pier. Road will be closed from 14:00 to 15:00 hours approximately.

As a result Route 220/220X should operate as follows:

Route 220 outbound to Crosshaven should operate as normal from Carrigaline on R612 to junction at O’Leary’s Cross. At O’Leary’s Cross turn right to travel on R612 towards Myrtleville. Continue ahead via Forge Cross; Myrtleville Cross; Goat’s Cross following R612 until junction with Brightwater. At junction with Brightwater, turn right, continuing ahead via Brightwater to junction with Church Bay Road. At junction with Church Bay Road, turn left and continue ahead towards Crosshaven Village.

For services resuming return journey to Cork City/Ballincollig, at junction with Church Bay Road and Crosshaven Village (Cronin’s Pub) continue on to roundabout, travelling around roundabout and taking exit to return to Church Bay Road, operating diversion in reverse order.

For services operating to Camden, turn right off Church Bay Road to Camden Road and normal route thereafter.

For inbound services from Camden, operate as per normal Route to junction with Camden Road and Crosshaven Village (Cronin’s Pub). Turn left to join Church Bay Road, then operate as per diversion in reverse order.

Route 220X outbound is unaffected and should operate as per normal via Church Bay Road to junction with Crosshaven Village. Then operate as per Route 220 diversion, travelling around Roundabout to take exit to rejoin Church Bay Road to operate inbound.

Customers will be facilitated at end of Church Bay Road (Cronin’s Pub), for duration.
