The National Transport Authority (NTA), in partnership with Bus Éireann, have launched new Route 31 Knockraha to Cork City.
This new route is designed to improve reliability and accessibility for commuters, students, and visitors, connecting Knockraha to Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork City.
Route 31 serves several key locations along the way, including Crestfield and Hazelwood Shopping Centres, Glanmire Business Park, Glanmire Community College, and John O’Callaghan Park.
Replacing the journeys previously provided on Route 214 to serve Knockraha, the new service offers increased frequency, running every 90 minutes with nine daily return trips providing enhanced transport options for both weekdays and weekends.
In addition to serving local communities, Route 31 offers valuable connections to Kent Station and Parnell Place, supporting access to commuter and inter-city rail services as well as regional and city bus services. Customers can interchange at Kent Station to Route 205 for trips to Cork University Hospital, University College Cork and Munster Technical University.
At the time of launch, Jeremy Ryan, Director of Public Transport Services at the National Transport Authority, said: “The introduction of Route 31 reflects the NTA’s continued commitment to improving public transport options for communities across the country. This new service will provide more frequent and reliable connections for people living and working in the Glanmire and Knockraha areas, making it easier to access education, employment, and essential services in Cork City. We’re pleased to partner with Bus Éireann in delivering enhanced connectivity that supports sustainable travel and regional development”.
Aled Williams, Regional Manager (South) at Bus Éireann said: Bus Éireann is delighted to announce these service enhancements with the introduction of Route 31 (Parnell Place to Knockraha) and updates to Route 214 (CUH to Glanmire). Community is core to Bus Éireann’s purpose to sustainably connect people and communities to who and what matters to them, helping to make life better. These improvements will benefit passengers travelling between Knockraha to Parnell Place as those making onward connections by rail.”
