Service enhancements for Navan-Dublin bus route

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today announced the enhancement of the NX bus service operating between Navan and Dublin coming into effect from Sunday, 11 October 2026.

The revised timetable will introduce additional capacity during peak time hours, including two new weekday morning departures from Navan at 05:00 and 05:20, providing earlier arrival times in Dublin city, as well as Increasing peak-time frequency of services from every 20 minute to every 15 minutes.

These enhancements represent an approximate increase of 24% to service levels compared with the current timetable.

Route and terminus changes

The NX route will now operate to a new Dublin city centre terminus at Moss Street, close to Tara Station, whilst outbound services to Navan will now board from Pearse Street, allowing for interchange with DART, commuter rail and Dublin city bus services in the area. But will no longer operate via Westland Row, Merrion Square and Wilton Terrace, helping to reduce delays caused by city centre congestion and improve overall reliability.

These enhancements are designed to keep additional NX capacity focused on the core Navan to Dublin corridor while reducing exposure to congestion in Dublin city centre and supporting improved punctuality and reliability.

Consultation findings

The changes follow a public consultation undertaken by NTA earlier this year as part of a review of the NX service. The consultation received over 80 submissions, with respondents highlighting the need for increased capacity, more frequent services and improved journey-time reliability.

Customers benefit from increased departures and frequency at peak times

Speaking on the changes, Jeremy Ryan, Director of Public Transport services has said:

From Sunday, 11 October, customers will benefit from two additional early morning departures and more frequent services during the busiest peak periods.
