The Wexford rollout follows a highly successful pilot scheme in Cavan and Monaghan, alongside recent expansions into Louth, Meath, Fingal, Limerick, Clare, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Longford, Westmeath, and Roscommon. Building on the success of contactless payment elsewhere on the network, this rollout reflects the NTA’s commitment to making public transport easier to use through modern and convenient ticketing options for rural and regional communities.

Supporting the modernisation of public transport

Contactless payment is currently available for single-journey fares. Daily and weekly fare products remain available through the Leap website and the TFI Leap Top-Up App. TFI Leap cards, cash payments and Free Travel Cards continue to be accepted across all eligible TFI Local Link services.

The initiative forms part of the NTA’s continued plan to update public transport fare systems nationwide, which strives to promote accessibility and improve the passenger experience for those in rural and regional communities.

Our focus remains on enhancing the customer experience

Edmund Betagh, TFI Local Link Programme Manager at the NTA, said: “The introduction of contactless payment on TFI Local Link Wexford RRS services marks another important step in making public transport more accessible and convenient for passengers. The strong uptake seen in other areas where contactless payment has been introduced reflects passengers’ preference for simple, fast and secure ways to pay for their journeys. As we continue to expand contactless payment across the TFI Local Link network, our focus remains on enhancing the customer experience and making public transport an even more attractive option for communities throughout Ireland.”
