NTA launches a public consultation on proposals to introduce dedicated town bus networks in Naas and Newbridge.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today launched a public consultation on proposals to introduce dedicated town bus networks in Naas and Newbridge.
The proposals would bring frequent, affordable and accessible public transport services to the growing communities of Naas and Newbridge.
Operating up to 18 hours a day, seven days a week, the proposed networks would comprise two new bus routes in each town, with services running every 30 minutes in each direction and connecting residents with key destinations and services.
The proposed networks would connect thousands of residents to key destinations including Naas General Hospital, Sallins & Naas Train Station, Newbridge Train Station, Millennium Park, town centres, employment locations, schools, retail areas and leisure facilities.
More than 85% of residents in both towns would be within 400 metres of a bus stop, providing convenient access to frequent local public transport and offering a practical alternative to private car travel.
According to Census 2022, Naas has a population of more than 26,000 people and Newbridge has more than 24,000 residents. Around two in every five journeys to work or education in each town both start and finish locally, creating a strong demand for reliable town-based public transport services.
As both towns continue to grow, the proposed bus networks will help improve accessibility, reduce congestion and support more sustainable travel choices.
The proposed Naas town bus network would comprise:
The NTA is also proposing a future extension of Route 139 to Blessington Road, subject to infrastructure requirements and funding approval.

The proposed Newbridge town bus network would comprise:

Maps showing the proposed route alignments in Naas and Newbridge are available as part of the consultation materials.
The NTA is inviting residents, businesses, community organisations and stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposals, including route alignments, locations served, bus stop locations and service hours.
John Nott, Head of Public Transport Services Planning, NTA, said:
“These proposals would significantly improve local public transport in Naas and Newbridge by providing frequent, reliable and accessible bus services throughout both towns. The networks have been designed to connect people with the destinations they need to access every day, while supporting sustainable growth and reducing reliance on the private car.
We encourage everyone to review the proposals and share their views through the public consultation process.”
Members of the NTA Service Planning Team will be available to discuss the proposals at:
