TFI Local Link Kildare South Dublin will introduce a new route between Athy and Allenwood starting from the 3rd of June 2025.

Connecting Ireland logo (smaller)This new route is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan which is a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.

Bus route 888 servicing Rathstewart, Kilberry, Kildangan, Monasterevin, Rathangan

Route 888 will operate five daily return services Monday to Saturday and three daily return services on Sunday. The new route will offer a new public transport connection to Lullymore Heritage Park and will offer improved connectivity to the villages and areas of Rathstewart, Kilberry North & South, Kildangan, Monasterevin, Mountrice Cross, Tullylost Cross, Mullantine, Ard Mhuire, Rathangan, Newtown and Lullymore.

Improved connectivity to Athy & Monasterevin Train Stations

The new route will offer peak time and evening services and will also provide improved connectivity to regional bus services and to Athy & Monasterevin Train Stations.

Speaking ahead of the launch, TFI Local Link Kildare South Dublin General Manager Alan Kerry, said:

“The launch of Route 888 marks another important milestone in the ongoing development of the TFI Local Link network in Kildare as part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan. Developed in collaboration with key partners, this new service offers a practical and sustainable alternative to private car use, improving access to employment, education, leisure, and tourism.
We’re particularly excited about the potential for Route 888 to support visitors to local attractions such as the Barrow Blueway and Lullymore Heritage Park, while also providing much improved connectivity for local communities.”
