Wheels Day
The aims of our whole school event are: focus on relationship building, encouraging lifelong cycling, promoting active travel, environmental awareness, road safety awareness, keeping fit, being active and having fun. The event will provide opportunities for pupils of all abilities to develop confidence, coordination and cycling skills through structured activities. Funding will also support the long-term promotion of physical activity within the school, as equipment purchased will be reused for future initiatives.
Our “Wheels Day” event during Bike Week 2026 will be a fun, inclusive, non-competitive cycling day where pupils are encouraged to bring tricycles, bicycles, scooters, and other wheeled equipment to school. The event will be planned and delivered by school staff, ensuring it is tailored to the needs and abilities of all pupils. Activities will be organised into stations, rotations and courses. Activities will include a cycling obstacle course, slow bike races, skills challenges, and a group cycle around the school grounds. The event aims to promote active travel, improve cycling confidence, and encourage participation from all pupils, including beginners and those who do not usually cycle. The event will be free of charge and open to all pupils. We will also have Road Safety lessons throughout the week. Our local guard will come to the school during the week to talk to the children about road safety.
