To encourage pupils to cycle in a safe manner, while improving their cycling skills. Events will take place on the grounds of our school. Events will include a cycling obstacle course, a slow cycle race and a talk on Cycle Safety and bicycle repair.
School cycle day for pupils along the Grand Canal Greenway
Each year we take a cycling roadshow to the local senior school TY students, with 2 bikes from opposite ends of the spectrum, interactive quizzes and competitions, a Q&A session and the now famous CO2 inflator and saddle height demos.
Join us for a Bicycle Repair Workshop at the Curragh Family Resource Centre, open to cyclists of all ages. Bikes will receive a basic safety check, with simple brake and gear adjustments where needed. To encourage more pupils who live within 3km radius to cycle to school We will start at the railway track on the greenway in Moate. Class will cycle to Garrycastle in different pace groups, supported by class teachers.
Cara House will take 10 people out to Glenveagh National Park and rent bikes from Grass Roots Bikes (electric and hybrid). We will cycle up to the Castle and have some refreshments while listening to a talk on wellbeing, before returning down to the car park and get the bus back to Cara House.
